Welcome Sylvia of A&E Landlord Services!

Tell us a little bit about your business…what is A&E Landlord Services?
A&E Landlord Services, LLC is a leasing service for residential properties.  In a nutshell we will advertise, show, screen prospective residents, collect 1st months’ rent and deposit, complete the appropriate legal documents and move in your new resident.

How did you decide to start A&E Landlord Services and what experience in this field did you have before starting your own business?
I have been in the property management business for over 11 years.  Over the years I realized that there are many owners of investment properties that do not have the knowledge of the Oregon Tenant Landlord Laws and/or the time to properly lease their homes.  This economy has forced many owners to have to rent out their home and due to economic constraints, they are unable to pay a monthly fee for a property management company.  A&E Landlord Services, LLC charges a one-time fee.

What was the BEST decision that you have made for your business so far?
The best decision that I have made is overcoming my fears and creating A&E Landlord Services, LLC.

What is your best form of marketing to your clients?
Our best form of marketing has been through referrals from customers, vendors, friends and family.

Are you married? Do you have any children?
I have been married for six years and have two beautiful children, Gabriella and Alec.

How do you find balance in life/family/work? How do you de-stress after a hard day?
I am very fortunate that I am able to adjust my work schedule around my family.   To my surprise, running has been my stress reliever.

What are three things that you couldn’t live without?
I could not live without my family, friends and my I pad!

What is one thing that totally surprised you about starting a business?
I just wonder why I did not start my business sooner!  I enjoy being an entrepreneur and setting my own schedule.

What is one mistake you have made or lesson you have learned so far?
My business is still fairly new so I don’t have any mistakes to share.  However, I’m sure that I will encounter many as the years go by and hope they will  only make me stronger!

And finally, what advice would you give someone starting out in business, or someone just trying to balance their business/ family lives better?
Networking is very important, especially in this economy.  Be open and honest with your client and they will refer you to their friends and family.  Family is most important.  With their support, you can accomplish anything!

One of those days…(random thoughts)

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Yesterday was just one of those days. You know…the days when you carry your 3 year old out of a store because he is screaming at the top of his lungs, or the days when you finally shower and put on clean clothes and then have your baby throw up on you, or the days when you look forward to your morning cup of chai only to open the fridge and realize you ran out the day before and forgot to get more. I am not saying any of this happened yesterday ;) , but if it did, it wouldn’t be the first time I have had one of those days as a mom. You see…I am a mom who loves my kids to death, but is certainly not perfect. I work 40+ hours a week from home admist the chaos of two crazy boys and a husband that has his own busy job and a schedule that is not ideal. We juggle photo shoots, play dates, swim lessons, errands, etc, etc and still somehow try to stay sane. My one year old has decided that he doesn’t like sleep more than 3 hours at a time, and I haven’t had a full night sleep in over a year. My 3 year old is energetic, physical, and in need to lots of mommy time…especially on the days when I have the most work to do or the phone is ringing off the hook. That being said, I wouldn’t change it for the world! My life, while chaotic and overwhelming most of the time, is also the life I have chosen and made with my husband. I am proud of my family and proud that we have turned this little hobby of photography into a booming business. I am proud that we make it work with crazy schedules, and late nights, and lots of love. Do I wish we had more time together? Sure…who wouldn’t? Do I wish that my boys would be the best behaved child in a store sometimes? Of course…it would make life a whole lot easier (and in all fairness to Will, he is usually really good). But just like my boys, we all have our off days. I certainly have my  share and can’t expect they won’t have theirs as well. So it makes sense that every so often (or more often than I care to admit) we have “one of those days”. The days where nothing seems to go right and all you can do is laugh to save your sanity! I refuse to be one of those people who eagerly checks days off a calendar, waiting for my life to settle down or for my kids to get out of this phase or that. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t wish these days away or waste my time wanting for something more. So even on “those days” I will embrace the chaos and mishaps and choose to hug my kids tighter, love on my husband more, and simply choose to be happy. Why am I sharing all of this…honestly, I am not sure, other than to maybe say…I don’t “do it all”! I have my bad days too and maybe some of you can relate to my crazy life and smile :) .

For those wanting an extra laugh…here is just a taste of day yesterday. We went to play/walk with some friends and in the rush of getting out of the house I forgot pants or a sweatshirt for Will. So…he played and ran around pant-less with Matt’s 18 month sweatshirt on.  Had to take a photo with my phone…enjoy!
